Is there anything that goes much deeper than your own personal passions and educated knowledge of them?
What makes something a passion of yours in the first place? Is it something that you enjoy so much that it becomes a hobby? Is it a hobby that becomes a passion due to the level of your interest and understanding of it?
I'd personally venture to say that as you start to look deeper, you will discover that your hobby transforms into a passion.
What passion(s) do you have? Also, at what level have you spent thinking or talking about it (them)? How much time, money and energy have you spent on the very specific passion(s)?
I personally have four hobbies. They are specifically Gardening, Art, Writing, and Music. These are all practical. Moreover, spiritually speaking, I also have four passions. First and foremost is my own personal relationship that I have with God himself. Along with that are my other three. They are Prayer, my Bible and Missions. More often than not, both the practical and the spiritual can be connected.
What makes you have the passions that you have? My guess would be that your passions become developed due to your deliberate discipline and time commitment for them.
Pastor Kevin McGlamery once said, "The more vision you have for your future, the more power you have for your present."
Usually your passion is not just something that you enjoy and do as a maintained habit. It goes much deeper than that. Having passion for something or someone by definition is to have an emotional experience of excitement and enthusiasm.
Let's take it one step further and go even deeper. What goes deeper than a passion? The answer is zeal.
To be zealous is to be eagerly devoted. It means that you have a deep sense of purpose and motivation and that you are in pursuit of a cause.
Romans 12:11 says "Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord."
So as you dare to go deeper than you normally do, I'm going to challenge you to answer just one question. It's a question that only you can answer. God will know the honest answer more personally than even you are aware of. I implore you to search both your heart and mind. I ask for your willingness to be prepared for a potentially raw truth to one single question.
How zealous are you for the Lord himself? No matter what the answer is to this question, I challenge you and encourage you to go deeper. Passion is the essential energy of the soul. As your passion grows, so will your zeal.
